According to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic, sources claimed Ivey will be paid out his full salary this season even after the Bulls released the guard for his “detrimental conduct to the team.”

As we previously shared, Ivey, 24, caught serious backlash on social media after taking to his Instagram Live with controversial religious beliefs. In one livestream, he called Catholicism a “false religion,” and when someone announced they were praying for him, he fired back, “God does not hear your Prayer if you are a sinner.”

In another livestream, Ivey called out the NBA for celebrating Pride Month. He said the league represented “unrighteousness.” Following Ivey’s comments, the Chicago Bulls waived its guard. He will be an unrestricted free agent if and when he clears waivers. At that point, he will then be able to sign with any NBA team wanting him.

Jaden Ivey Claims Wife And Family Abandoned And Betrayed Him As ‘Crazy,’ Wife Denies Bailing On Former Chicago Bulls Player

Following Ivey’s controversial comments, which also included him taking shots at Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry, he claimed his wife and family exiled him. He took to another Instagram Live and said his family has written him off as crazy and that his wife, Caitlyn Ivey, was in his live despite ignoring all of his messages.

Caitlyn, who shares three children: son Noah James Ivey, 3, daughter Shiloh Elizabeth Ivey, 2, and son Isaiah Edward Ivey, 1, with the former Bulls player, eventually broke her silence. On Wednesday (April 1), she wrote in one Instagram Story, “We were communicating all morning of that day. People say things for attention, do not be deceived.”

She continued to share screenshots of alleged DMs from people calling her out for allegedly abandoning her husband. Caitlyn said, “These DM’s (and many more) over one lie spoke on my name.” She added in a another swipe, “If you know me you know I have never once abandoned that man through all the trials.. and I still haven’t now. There is obviously a lot more going on, so leave your conspiracies and guesses to yourselves.”

Chicago Bulls Waive Jaden Ivey After Anti-LGBTQ Rant

Upon waiving Ivey from the team, Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan explained:

“I think there’s a certain level of standards and expectations that are here. I mean, we have people from all different walks of life working in the building and players from all different walks of life, right? So, the first thing is, everybody comes with their own personal experiences. But one is, we’ve got to all be professional. I think there’s got to be a high level of respect for one another, and we got to help each other and then be accountable to those standards.”

The Bulls released Ivey during his final season of a four-year rookie contract. He initially signed the deal after the Detroit Pistons chose him as the No. 5 pick in the 2022 NBA draft. In February 2026, the Bulls acquired him ahead of the season’s trade deadline. The trade was a three-team deal that sent Kevin Huerter and Dario Šarić to Detroit, and Jaden Ivey and Mike Conley to the Bulls.

Upon landing in Chicago, Ivey only played in four games, averaging 11.5 points per game. Ivey also hasn’t been on the court since February 11. Additionally, days before his rant, a sore left knee benched him for the remainder of the season.
