Cheyenne Dunn,31, discussed her dental journey on TikTok and wanted to end the stigma surrounding dentures. According to the Daily Mail, Dunn revealed that she had braces at 15, but the orthodontic treatment left spots and decay on her teeth after they were removed two years later.  Dunn has attempted to fix her dental issues within a decade and hopes to get dental implants.

She said in a TikTok that her dental issues started at 17 when she started to experience gum and tooth decay. Dunn’s dental issues were so severe that she struggled to eat and lost 15 pounds in one month. Due to the condition of her teeth, her dentist suggested dentures because she couldn’t afford any treatment. ‘He was a complete sadist and absolutely enjoyed pulling my teeth, after I paid and got the extractions he showed his true colors and was a total d***,” she explained.

Tooth decay is a common problem among people wearing braces because braces make it harder to clean your teeth properly. The brackets and wires can trap food particles and make it difficult to reach all areas of your teeth when brushing and flossing.

Here are some tips to prevent tooth decay while wearing braces:

  1. Brush regularly: Brush your teeth after every meal and snack, using a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush. Be sure to clean around your brackets and wires, and use a interdental brush to clean between teeth and wires.
  2. Floss daily: Use a floss threader to thread floss between your teeth and around your braces to remove any food particles and plaque.
  3. Limit sugary and acidic foods: Sugary and acidic foods can increase the risk of tooth decay. Try to limit your intake of sugary and acidic foods and drinks, such as candy, soda, and sports drinks.
  4. Use fluoride mouthwash: Rinse your mouth with a fluoride mouthwash after brushing to help strengthen your teeth and prevent tooth decay.
  5. Visit your dentist regularly: Regular dental checkups are important to monitor the health of your teeth and identify any problems early on.

If you are experiencing tooth decay while wearing braces, your orthodontist may recommend additional measures such as placing fluoride varnish on your teeth, or using special dental tools to clean around your braces more effectively. It’s important to follow your orthodontist’s recommendations and maintain good oral hygiene to prevent tooth decay and other dental problems while wearing braces.
