School officials in Laurens County, Georgia reveal how sorry and “disappointed” they are after a racist photo has made its way online. The picture shows five white male students spelling out the n-word on their chests.

The photo was taken last Friday night (September 16), during West Laurens High School football game versus Bleckley County High School.

The students had painted on jerseys on their torsos. They were reportedly supposed to form a big line to spell out “# DiggingForRoyalGold!!!,” as their rival team’s name is the “Royals.”

However, at some point, a few of the students decided to deviate from the initial plan and stand in a shorter line to spell out a derogatory word.

Laurens County’s school Superintendent Clifford Garnto said that they are aware of the racist photo of the five white male students and that the district “does not support, nor condone, any offensive actions of this nature.”

In his statement, Superintendent Garnto added, “We are truly disappointed in the choices of these students; the environment and teaching at West Laurens High School fosters love and respect among our students and each other.”

Although there were no details about any disciplinary actions being taken, Superintendent Garnto added, “We have to be responsible for our actions and every action has consequences.”

In full, the school district said:

“Our Laurens County Schools Administration is fully aware of the derogatory photo circulating on social media outlets. We do not support, nor condone, any offensive actions of this nature. We are truly disappointed in the choices of these students.

The environment and teaching at West Laurens High School fosters love and respect among our students for each other. What is observed in this picture is completely misaligned with the values of our school and community.

Rest assured, the incident is being investigated. We have to be responsible for our actions, and every action has consequences.”
