The infamous FreakNik will return this summer under a new name with over 40 artists performing at the three-day festival.

According to WSB-TV, the summer festival will debut under a new name called Freak World and will take place at Atlanta’s Cascade Driving Range on June 19-21. Promoter Carlos Neal said the festival won’t be the same as the FreakNik of the 90s but it will have the same fun for a much older crowd. He recreated the event last summer and said people still had fun due to the festival’s lineup of artists such as Project Pat, Uncle Luke, Da Brat, and Foxy Brown:

“For everyone who said, ‘This isn’t the Freaknik of the ‘90s,’ I’m like, look, we’re older now and most people got that and still had fun. “I wanted to do it in a community where people embraced this event. I chose the community where I grew up because I wanted the dollars to impact that community,”

The infamous festival began in 1983 and gained notoriety in the 90s where people from different cities would visit Atlanta for a three day weekend full of parties and events. However, there would be an increase in crime and the festival was canceled by then-Mayor Bill Campbell’s administration.

It is expected for this year’s festival to be more family-friendly due to it being hosted by Live Nation and Lakewood.
