Former NBA player and Republican Senate candidate Royce White has updated followers and said the wig he ordered after declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft has finally arrived. White also says, “After 35 years, I now identify as a sometimes-identifying Black transgender lesbian.”
Former NBA Players Enes Kanter Freedom And Royce White Announce Declarations For 2027 WNBA Draft
As we previously shared, days before fellow former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom announced his declaration to the WNBA Draft in April, White — who was a first round pick in the 2011 Draft —first made his announcement.
Both White and Freedom’s declarations arrive after the WNBA announced a new set of eligibility rules for transgender athletes, allowing them to play in the women’s professional basketball league. Both players are cleverly calling out the WNBA for potential hypocrisy regarding its trans athletes discourse.
On August 2, White first appeared to comment on the controversial conversation around Sophie Cunningham — the Indiana Fever player who went viral for saying “biological men” should not compete in women’s sports.
White went on to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft after claiming he was “transgender.” The U.S. Senate candidate for Minnesota said:
“I’m now transgender. I’m going to pursue a career in the WNBA… I identify as a sometimes identifying trans woman. I wish to be treated fairly and don’t want to be discriminated against. This is a serious pursuit. I realize after 35 years, I’m actually a woman. Royce White for U.S. Senate MN 2026. 1st Transgender Senator!”
He proceeded to troll those responding to him. On August 7, he even stated, “I identify as a sometimes identifying transgender woman! My wig is in the mail.” White also spoke with Fox News about his declaration. He also responded to Freedom’s declaration on X, saying they could both play for the same WNBA team.

Days after claiming his wig was in the mail, White confirmed it had arrived. On Sunday (August 9), he shared a photo of him wearing a dirty blonde wig with loose curls. He wrote:
“It came y’all… My 1st wig! Tomorrow I test it on the court. This is my feminine era glow up, did I slay? If y’all don’t ‘yassss queen’ you’re transphobic. I really don’t understand all the hatred, I just want to play some hoops with my fellow ladies. Royce White for U.S. Senate MN 2026 WNBA #LetHerPlay.”
White continued to cleverly clap back at those criticizing and “misgendering” him. He even said “thanks to Dennis Rodman” for walking so he could run to the WNBA.
On Tuesday (August 11), White appeared in a Fox Business interview, where he updated that after 35 years, he now “identifies as a sometimes identifying Black transgender lesbian.”
