Former Bad Boy rapper Moses “Shyne” Barrow is elected to Belize’s House of Representatives!

The former rapper was elected into the political position on Wednesday and will represent the Mesopotamia District in Belize City. Although his rap career was cut short after serving 14 years in prison in relation to a 1999 shooting involving Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. He was convicted of attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment but turned his life around after his release from prison.

Shyne announced his win and thanked his supporters for voting. He started his political journey by serving as Belize’s Ambassador of Music. His father, Dean Barrow, served as the country’s first Black Prime Minister.

Diddy supported Shyne’s political endeavors back in June in an Instagram post and wrote, “BELIZE 🇧🇿 I’m so proud of my brother @shyne_bz and the journey he is on. He is running for the House of Representatives and needs your support. #BadBoy4Life ✊🏿🖤”
