Chris Redd, who is best known for his stint on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live!,” was attacked on Wednesday, the New York City Police Department has revealed. According to the preliminary police investigation, per Entertainment Weekly, Redd had just arrived at the Comedy Gellar in Greenwich Village, in time for his evening gig.

The NYPD says that Redd had just stepped out of his vehicle after arriving at the venue around 9:40 PM when — out of nowhere — a man rushed up and punched him straight in the face. According to the report, following some questioning with the 37-year-old and other nearby witnesses, the comedian was taken to the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan for treatment after being left with a bloody nose.

The attacker, on the other hand, fled the scene, with cops still trying to locate his whereabouts. Video footage obtained by TMZ shows drops of blood on the sidewalk and down a flight of stairs, indicating that the assault was rather vicious. An update via the aforementioned publication claims that Redd’s Greg Yuna chain was snatched during the attack but as the assailant ran away, the jewelry was, fortunately, able to be recovered.

It was just a month ago when Redd announced he was leaving “SNL,” right after reports claimed the funnyman has been dating Kenan Thompson’s estranged wife, Christina Evangeline. According to sources, the pair began dating some time this year but mentioned that there was never an overlap when Redd and Evangeline started seeing one another.

From what’s been gathered, Thompson has been completely fine with the romance, particularly because he’s been looking to go his own way since 2019 when the pair first separated. Official court documents pertaining to divorce were filed in June of this year, with both parties agreeing to share custody of their children.

Some fans speculated whether the reason why Redd was leaving “SNL” had something to do with him being in a relationship with Thompson’s former partner, which insiders said is far from the case. Redd has been booked and busy with his upcoming HBO Max special and the release of an Audible-produced project, while Thompson has also been actively dating other people since his split from Evangeline.
