While appearing on the ’Table Manners Podcast,’ Khan said that when she’s “not singing,” she “doing other things” as she has “lots to do.” After being compared to “mother nature personified” and one of “the greatest singers,” Khan agreed. She added:

“I’m kind of like everybody’s grandma as well. You know, people tell me all the time, they say, ‘I grew up listening to you. My grandma used to play your songs. My mother used to play your songs.’ So, I’m like a household name in a way. And that’s a beautiful thing. That’s a wonderful thing.”

Khan continued to slam modern performers, stating:

“I wouldn’t see some other artists whose butts are out and everything. T*ts are out and everything. They’re doing rolling on the stage and cuckoo. I just don’t understand that. I kept it—I try to keep it [classy]. I’m a recovering Catholic. So, that helps.”

Later in the interview, Chaka Khan continued claiming that she doesn’t have to pull out all the “bells and whistles” because her singing alone is enough. She said, “I give 100 percent. 110. I don’t do the things in between [the vocals]. I don’t do dancing. I do none of that stuff. I sang, period.”

Khan is then reminded of her comments shared on a ‘Breakfast Club‘ interview. She essentially claimed that when she goes on stage, she only needs to sing, nothing else extra, “like showing her body.” Khan agreed and said, “No, I don’t believe in that.” She also said she believes that the demands for female performers have changed in modern times. She said, “The game has changed. Because all bets are off.”

Khan continued to slam today’s female performers “doing the most on stage,” like shaking their “butts and stuff.” She said the performers showing off their “body parts are the ones that usually are compensating” for weak vocals or lack of talent in general.

“These women are doing any- and every-damn-thing on stage, and trying to sing, too. And the ones who are doing the most, physicalities, their butts and stuff, and their body parts, are the ones that usually are compensating for what they don’t have.”

One of the podcast hosts said, “Move your body if you don’t have a voice.” Khan agreed, “Absolutely. So, I came to sing. And I came to really do the job. And that’s hard work. But, I don’t feel like it’s hard work once I’m doing it. I feel great.”
