Instead of seeing content that is not related to what’s going on in the country following the tragic death of George Floyd, many people including celebrities like Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Keyshia Cole, Tyrese and major entertainment companies, such as Walt Disney Co., Netflix Inc., Spotify Technology SA, and Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group — have all agreed to encourage their audience to use this time to reflect, educate themselves, re-connect with their communities, and also to share helpful information.
Today, we will continue to do what we’ve always been doing: share pertinent information for protestors, bail organizations, resources along with reading materials about race/racism, and to continue to uplift our audience during these tough time. We will also continue to demand justice for Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and every other black man or woman who had their life taken due to police brutality or racism. Organizers of #BlackoutTuesday are asking participates not to hashtag Black Lives Matter while posting the black picture on their social media as it will black out the feed and hide important content that needs to be shared.
Here are examples of how music and entertainment leaders are using their platform on #BlackOutTuesday:
