An ‘Empire’ Spinoff Starring Taraji P. Henson In The Works At Fox!
If you love seeing Taraji P. Henson on your screens then you might just love this news. According to Variety, Fox has formally put into development a spinoff of the hit show “Empire” starring Henson, with the actress reprising her role as Cookie Lyon in the potential series.

The news site reports that the project is part of a new two-year overall deal the actress has inked with 20th Century Fox TV. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Danny Strong, who co-created “Empire” with Lee Daniels, will serve as co-showrunner on the potential series alongside Stacy Littlejohn and Yolanda Lawrence.
As of right now, official plot details remain under wraps. However, sources tell THR the spinoff will possibly follow Cookie as she moves to L.A. Some of her other family members are expected to be featured in the series. Sources close to deal also say the spinoff could help “Empire” come to a proper conclusion since the series finale was unable to be produced before the industry-wide production shutdown due to the pandemic.
“I believe that normalizing stories around stigmatizing matters will make them more palatable for audiences to embrace. Art can change perception and I plan to develop projects that can help further the conversation. I also aim to help cultivate and establish new young talent and their stories because they are our future and deserve a voice and a platform to be heard. I’m so excited to have 20th, led by the talented Carolyn Cassidy, support me in this new endeavor,” said Henson in a statement.
20th Century Fox TV president Carolyn Cassidy also released a statement,
“We were lucky to have a front-row seat to Taraji’s meteoric rise as a fixture on television through ‘Empire.’ Through that relationship everyone at the company grew to appreciate her passion for storytelling and her strong creative gut instinct,” added 20th Century Fox TV president Carolyn Cassidy. “With ‘Empire’ finished we look forward to helping her explore stories that need to be told through her talent and advocacy.”
