Chris Brown’s housekeeper who sued him over a “shocking” and “bloody” dog attack has agreed to accept a reduced $9.5 million verdict after first being awarded $13 million.

Back in April 2021, Brown was first sued by his cleaning lady. She claimed she and her sister were vicious attacked by a dog in his home.

In her $90 million lawsuit, Patricia Avila claimed Brown hired her and her sister, Maria Avila, to clean his home in Tarzana, California for $600 a day, twice a week. Patricia claimed she and Maria were aware of the dogs in Brown’s home. Furthermore, she said he kept them in a separate area during their work hours.

However, one day, she claimed one of the dogs — a 110-220-pound Caucasian Shepherd Ovcharka — got into the backyard as Maria was working. Patricia alleged the dog bit Maria’s arm. She said it “ripped 3 to 4 inches of skin off,” and then bit Maria’s face and legs.

Patricia said she managed to free Maria from the dog — which allegedly had a history of aggressive behavior. She said she feared her sister was going to die due to the significant amount of blood loss.

Jury Finds Chris Brown Liable In Housekeeper Dog Attack Case, Orders Him To Pay $13 Million

On June 16, 2026, the case was declared a mistrial after one day of testimonies. Rolling Stone reported a juror had searched for information about the case prior to the trial. The juror then shared that information with others. About two weeks later, as the case was retried, Brown was found liable. He was ordered to pay $13.835 million.

According to Billboard, on June 30, jurors determined that Brown and his company, Black Pyramid LLC., owed $12.9 million in damages to Maria for negligence. Patricia was also awarded in the attack, with a sum of $885,000 for emotional distress. Plus, Maria’s husband, Oscar Olivo, won a $50,000 award in the verdict.

As Brown’s team continued to fight the verdict, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Huey P. Cotton sided with them. Last week, the judge concluded that the $13 million jury award was “excessive” and wasn’t supported by evidence.

Therefore, on Tuesday (September 29), Rolling Stone reported the judge reduced the award to $9.5 million. Additionally, Patricia will maintain her separate $855,000 award by the jury. Presumably Maria’s husband maintains his as hers sees a reduction.  In order to avoid a new trial, the Avilas agreed to accept the new amount.

“The court finds that the jury’s award to Maria Avila is excessive. The court elects to issue a conditional order granting a new trial, as to Maria Avila only, on the issue of damages unless Plaintiff consents to a reduction of the jury’s damages to $9.5 million.”
