#Socialites, come get into this wild story: Wednesday morning, before the sun was even up, a young woman in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood found herself face to face with a masked stranger inside her own home. Police say it happened around 5 a.m. at an apartment building on the 4600 block of Castor Avenue. By the time it was over, the man was dead.
Investigators believe a 29-year-old man in a ski mask smashed a second floor window and climbed into the apartment. The woman told officers she heard someone breaking windows and then found the man inside her place. Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department said the man broke the window, reached in, and opened the door. In his words, “that’s when the shot or shots were fired.”
The woman inside didn’t miss. She fired at least two shots, and one hit the man in the head. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene. Now get this… Once investigators took the mask off, the woman recognized the man and told police they had a prior relationship. At first, officials weren’t sure what kind of relationship it was. But a police source told @6abcactionnews’s @cheyennecorin, the man was her ex-boyfriend.
The woman is cooperating, handed over a semi-automatic handgun, and is being interviewed by homicide detectives. Police are also looking at surveillance video from near the scene. Small also said it doesn’t look like the man had any weapons on him. That detail is going to matter as investigators piece everything together. As of now, no arrests or charges have been reported.
A lot of questions are still hanging in the air. Why was he wearing a mask? Why did he break in? Was there any history of threats or trouble between them? Whether there was ever a protection order between the two is still unknown.
Police haven’t said what he wanted. This is a developing story, and details may change as police release more information.
