Socialites, a 56-year-old woman named Billie Davis has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing an Indiana University student on a bus for being Chinese. According to WRTV, the attack occurred at around 4:45 PM in Bloomington on Wednesday as an 18-year-old, who police chose not to name, was about to get off the bus when she was suddenly attacked with a folding knife.

Davis was later arrested and charged with battery, but after doctors discovered that the student had suffered multiple stabbing wounds on her head, those charges were increased to attempted murder. Davis was questioned about the attack on two separate occasions before she allegedly admitted to the hateful crime, saying there “would be one less person to blow up our country.”

Police are certain that there was no interaction between the pair during the bus ride and have ruled that the attack was racially motivated based on what Davis claimed to have told them. After the stabbing, Davis got off the bus and left the scene; she was arrested by cops shortly after and bizarrely smirked while having her mugshot taken.

She went on to confess to using the knife to stab the student and purely targeted her because of her race. Based on CCTV footage, the 18-year-old was stabbed around seven times, causing her to lose a heap of blood as paramedics rushed to aid her injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors could clearly see a sharp object had been penetrated into her skin repeatedly.

“This week, Bloomington was sadly reminded that anti-Asian hate is real and can have painful impacts on individuals and our community,” Indiana University vice president James Wimbush said in a statement after learning about the heartbreaking yet equally disturbing news about one of their students.

“No one should face harassment or violence due to their background, ethnicity or heritage. Instead, the Bloomington and IU communities are stronger because of the vast diversity of identities and perspectives that make up our campus and community culture.”

Furthermore, the university assured that any students that were affected by the recent attack could seek counseling from one of the members at the faculty. An asian culture center at the school chimed in by describing the incident as a “horrific” and “targeted anti-Asian hate crime.”
