As we previously shared, Tyreek Hill was first pulled over on Sunday morning (September 8) moments ahead of his team’s season-opening game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Miami-Dade police officers claimed the football player was driving dangerously. Upon pulling him over, there was a verbal altercation and police chose to pull him from the car and handcuffed him. Police ended up releasing Hill and cited him for reckless driving.

In a statement following the arrest incident with Tyreek Hill, officials with the Miami Dolphins shared to social media, “This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released.” They continued, “Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived at the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”

Additionally, Miami-Dade Police Department Director, Stephanie V. Daniels, addressed the incident and opened an investigation into the officer behind Hill’s arrest. He was soon placed on administrative leave. On Monday (September 9), TMZ updated that the president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association — which represents over 6,000 law enforcement officers in the Sunshine State (SFLPBA) — told them that Hill was handcuffed because he was uncooperative during the traffic stop.

The source said Hill put “himself and others in great risk of danger” while on his way to Hard Rock Stadium. The SFLPBA added, “Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs. Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground. Once the situation was sorted out within a few minutes. Mr. Hill was issued two traffic citations and was free to leave.”

About 7 hours later, TMZ now updates that they’ve obtained police body-camera footage showing officers yanking Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill from his car during the traffic stop on Sunday. After being pulled from his car, Hill is thrown to the ground following a dispute over his window. In the footage, the officer knocks on Hill’s driver’s window, prompting him to yell out, “Ay! Don’t know on my window like that, man.” From there, the two get into a verbal altercation, resulting in Hill being yanked from his car, thrown to the pavement, and handcuffed.
