TV Show “Cops’ Resumes Production After Cancellation In Wake Of George Floyd’s Death
After more than 30 years on air, the reality TV series “Cops” was canceled amid protests against racism and police brutality sparked by George Floyd’s death. “Cops” was headed into its 33rd season and had aired more than 1,100 episodes but in June, Paramount Network told ET in a statement that it didn’t “have any current or future plans” for the show to return. The announcement was widely praised by critics of the show all over social media.
However, just months after the tragedy that led to their big decision, Fox Business is reporting that “Cops” have resumed production. It was said that it is currently taking place in Spokane County, Wash., a region that has hosted the show previously.
In an online press release, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said: “We have a longstanding relationship with ‘Cops’ and Langley productions, and we are pleased they have decided to return, highlighting the outstanding work our Deputies provide to all of you,” The release noted that filming with deputies began in September and will continue until November.
However, a spokesperson for Langley Productions told The Hollywood Reporter that the episodes will not air in the U.S., but are being filmed to fulfill overseas commitments.
