The investigation into Tupac Shakur’s 1996 murder may not be fully closed. On Tuesday, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson addressed the possibility of further charges, stating that while they haven’t completely shut the door on Diddy, the current evidence simply doesn’t support it.
“At this point, we don’t believe we have sufficient evidence to charge anyone else with the death of Tupac Shakur,” Wolfson explained. “But, like any other case, if we come into more information, more evidence, we can always consider filing additional charges.”
The update comes just one day after a Las Vegas jury found Duane “Keefe D” Davis guilty of murder for his role in the legendary rapper’s drive-by shooting. Throughout the trial, jurors were presented with recorded police interviews where Davis claimed that Diddy had offered a $1 million bounty to take out both Tupac and Suge Knight, alleging that Combs wanted to “get rid of those dudes.”
Diddy has consistently and vehemently denied any connection to the crime. A source close to Combs previously told TMZ, “Diddy had absolutely nothing to do with the Tupac murder. He did not pull the trigger or set it up.”
Prosecutors successfully argued that Davis orchestrated a group of Crips gang members to carry out the hit in retaliation for an altercation earlier that night, during which Tupac and others allegedly beat up Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand.
Davis was convicted of murder with the use of a deadly weapon and the intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang. He faces a potential life sentence, with his sentencing date set for October 13. Diddy is currently serving a four-year prison sentence following his own conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
