A TikToker says she doesn’t use a crib for her baby because it’s for the parents’ benefit and compares them to jail cells.

User @comingupfern raised some eyebrows on social media after she uploaded a video claiming she doesn’t use a crib for her five-month-old baby because she “will never enforce a bedtime for her child” and says it is inhumane to force an infant to sleep when they are not tired. The mother argues that kids deserve bodily autonomy as adults and she uses a toddler bed along with a floor bed because “it allows the baby to sleep when the baby is tired & get up and move around when the baby isn’t.”

However, several people in her comments were appalled by the parenting method and stated that cribs are used to keep babies safe. An ICU nurse wrote, “I can attest that this is absolutely incorrect and unsafe..babies need to be put on a schedule and take naps, they need to sleep to grow!” Other commenters argued that babies are not capable of making their own decisions.

The video also went viral on Twitter where people criticized Fern’s parenting skills and said babies need cribs for growth and safety.
