A Texas woman has been arrested after authorities say she dug up the grave of her infant daughter and removed the remains.

According to KTRE, 33-year-old Tamisha Chetneice Drake was taken into custody after police were notified last Thursday that a newborn infant’s grave had been opened and that both the remains and burial container were missing.

The Angelina County Sheriff’s Office said investigators were able to connect the incident to Drake.

Confession and Recovery of Remains

Authorities stated that during questioning, Drake admitted to digging up the grave. She reportedly directed detectives to the location where she had left the remains.

Deputies later recovered the infant’s body and container in the driveway of an unoccupied home.Investigators confirmed that Drake’s infant daughter did not survive childbirth. A burial had previously been arranged through Colonial Mortuary of Lufkin, which also assisted law enforcement during the investigation.

Charge Filed

Drake has been charged with abuse of a corpse. Officials have not released additional details about a possible motive. The case remains under investigation.

For now, authorities say the remains have been recovered and proper procedures are being followed as the legal process moves forward
