Shaquille O’Neal has recounted a moment with his son that left him feeling embarrassed when he struggled to help him write a strong resumé for his first job. The 50-year-old made the comment to Australia’s Sunrise News, saying that since he’s never had to work a regular job in his life, the former NBA star had no clue how he could possibly help his son if he’s never written one himself.

“I am grateful because I realize that the position I am in, in life, is a lucky position. I never had a real job in my life,” the 50-year-old explained. “When I was trying to help my son fill out a resume, I had to call somebody … I couldn’t do it … I was embarrassed.” That’s when host David Koch interjected, reminding O’Neal, “You’ve never had a real job, but you’re almost as comfortable in business as you are on the basketball court … you’ve got an MBA.”

And while O’Neal agreed, having earned his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix in an online course, the New Jersey native does not shy away from the fact that he has an incredible team behind him who evidently help him steer his business in the path of continued success and growth. “The reason why I did that is because I always like to be in charge, but I let other people speak for me, my agents … they think I’m just this dumb jock who has no inclination of what business is. It would just drive me crazy.”

O’Neal will soon be making his return as a co-analyst for NBA on TNT this season and recently made claims of having an interest in purchasing Orlando Magic — the team that had drafted him back in 1992.

In a chat on “The Big Podcast” from June, he shared, ”This message goes out to the DeVos family if you’re ready to sell Orlando Magic, sell it to somebody who’s gonna take it to the next level, that’s us. Listen, we still run that franchise [Magic]. If they wanna sell it to us, DeVos family, we’re ready to go right now.”
