While addressing how things are going with brother Ray J, Brandy admits she had to put some “distance” between them because of his recent public antics. Her admission also explains the reason for his notable absence from her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
Ray J Missing From Brandy’s Hollywood Walk Of Fame Ceremony After Dragging Shyne, Mase, Cam’ron In Sister’s Defense
On March 30, Ray J was visibly missing as his sister posed with her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was accompanied by their parents, Willie Norwood and Sonja Norwood, and several other celebrities. But, her brother was missing in action.
However, Ray’s absence wasn’t completely shocking to the public. He’s been noticeably causing outrage online. In addition to taking up for his sister in different online feuds, Ray also got into his own spats involving himself.
Particularly, a few weeks ago, Ray J crashed out while defending Brandy against Former Bad Boy Records rappers Shyne and Mase (or MA$E), and the latter’s podcast co-host, Cam’ron. As previously shared, Shyne went on the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast, and he, along with Mase, claimed they both dated the “Full Moon” singer.
Mase and Shyne’s wild confessions caused Ray J to go on an even wilder rant, dragging the two Bad Boy rappers, plus Dipset’s Cam’ron. Eventually, Brandy spoke out to deny Shyne’s claims and also clarify that she did not tell Ray J to defend her, nor did she condone his behavior.
Brandy Calls Out Ray J’s Online Behavior After Shyne & Mase Feud, He Later Apologizes To Her
Attempting to bring the drama to an end, Brandy broke her silence on Instagram as she promoted her memoir, ‘Phases.’ She wrote:
“In the late 90’s, I had a platonic friendship with rapper Shyne. In an unfortunate turn of events, that friendship is now being mischaracterized as ‘we dated! Unequivocally, we did not! I’m not sure why an untrue narrative about a scope of what was a friendship more than 20-years ago is being reshaped during his current media interviews. People telling their version of my story is why I am releasing my upcoming memoir, ‘PHASES.’ It’s time to tell my truth and debunk many of the misnomers that people think they know about my life.
Additionally, I rarely release statements and typically ignore stories about me in the headlines even when they’re false. But when I do decide to standup for myself, I handle things on my own. While I love my brother Ray J, I don’t condone or support the messages he’s shared on social media and have not asked him to defend me in any form. #PHASES is available March 31, 2026.”
After his sister’s public address, he then publicly apologized for his handling of the Shyne, Mase, and Cam’ron feud. He shared a video on Instagram and captioned the post:
“My bad B! – this apology is for you and ONLY YOU! – I was outta pocket. No spin, no extras. You’re my blood and I moved in a way that didn’t reflect your brand in a positive way! I apologize for real. I’m making sure my actions line up with respect moving forward.- I accept the repercussions of these actions! I will always defend you and anybody in my family I truly love! – But I have to learn how to express myself in a respectful manner especially when you are involved! – I still don’t like none of those guys and what they did was janky AsF- but what I said was not ok – hopefully I can be apart of your world in the near future or 2027. And to my mom and dad I apologize too. Sincerely On tha dead homiez.”
Brandy Admits She Had To Put ‘Distance’ Between Her And Ray J After Recent Online Antics, Had To Protect Her ‘Peace’
While speaking with Parade Magazine in an April 1 article, Brandy addressed her relationship with her baby brother. She said:
“There is distance right now. Yes. There are a few things that he’s been doing in the public eye that I don’t condone. And I just feel like loving him from afar right now it’s best for me and my peace. But my life with Ray, and my connection with him, is all throughout the book. And you can see my love for him, it just, it never wavers.”
