Portland’s Liza Sejkora has resigned from her principal duties at Camas High School following the backlash of her remarks about Kobe Bryant and his being charged with rape in 2003.

While the loss of the legendary NBA player left thousands upon thousands of fans stunned and teary-eyed across the globe, the tragedy was also met with resurfaced criticism of the dismissed case.

Following Bryant’s passing, Sejkora’s initial remarks read on a since deleted Facebook post, “Not gonna lie. Seems to me that karma caught up with a rapist today.” Upon her resignation, she stated, “I have some personal experience that generated the visceral reaction. This was a situation where I didn’t think before I posted, and I’m terribly regretful about that.

In addition to Sejkora’s latest statement, Camas Schools superintendent Jeff Snell says, “This has been a tumultuous week; however, I’ve been impressed with the level of professionalism our staff members have displayed as well as the caring and compassion from our families.”
