Pooh Shiesty is no longer facing a life sentence as he pleaded guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of violent and drug-trafficking crimes, according to Rolling Stone.

The charge stems from an altercation that happened in Florida in October 2020, where the rapper allegedly shot a 28-year-old man in the butt while trying to purchase sneakers and weed. Since he pleaded guilty, federal prosecutors have dropped three other charges that could have resulted in a lifetime prison sentence.

Now, Shiesty could face eight years in prison. However, Magistrate Judge Lauren Fleischer Louis noted that such an outcome was not guaranteed, Rolling Stone reports.

Pooh Shiesty is still being held at Miami’s Federal Detention Center. A federal judge ordered that Shiesty remains in the slammer without bond as he awaits trial on robbery and firearms charges.

Back in October, his defense lawyer Bradford Cohen told Rolling Stone the reason for accepting the deal: “We’ve entered into plea negotiations because there have been developments in the case that I think changed the dynamics of the case.”
