NBA star PJ Washington is reportedly fighting to dismiss his ex-girlfriend Brittany Renner‘s request for $35,000 a month in child support, after it was reported that he only pays $5,000 for their son.
Washington, 27, and Renner, 33, first began dating after seemingly shooting his shot at her during one of his college games. Renner attended a game when he played for the University of Kentucky Wildcats in 2019. In 2020, they went official and by 2021, Washington confirmed they had a baby boy together. They named him Paul Jermaine “PJ” Washington III, now 4.
However, shortly after their son’s arrival, the couple called it quits. Washington went on to marry Alisah Chanel and they welcomed a son together. Altogether, they share three children, Washington’s son with Renner, his with Chanel, and Chanel’s kid from a prior relationship.

Reports Surface Claiming PJ Washington Pays Brittany Renner $5,000 Monthly Child Support After Signing $90 Million Mavericks Contract Extension
On September 3, reports broke that PJ Washington — who was first drafted to the Charlotte Hornets in 2019 — signed a $90 million contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks. Agent Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports Management broke the news to ESPN.
In the new deal, Washington agreed to a four-year, $90 million contract extension with the franchise. Before the new contract, Washington had one season left on his current deal for $14.1 million. After signing his new deal, Washington will no longer be eligible for any trades during the 2025-26 NBA season.
On September 30, TMZ Sports reported that Washington was paying Renner $5,500 a month in child support. The publication claimed court documents revealed Washington was required to make the payments as part of a consent order issued in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
The docs had a start date of November 2024. Additionally, the paperwork claimed Washington was also ordered to pay a lump sum of $130,000 to satisfy “any and all existing child support accruing prior to the entry of this consent order, as well as for [Renner’s] attorney’s fees.”
TMZ reported that Renner had filed a notice in Los Angeles County court earlier in the month, as she attempted to continue collecting the child support in California. This, despite the former couple entering the order in North Carolina. In the filing, Renner claimed Washington owed $0 in arrears, suggesting he’d been current on his required child support payments.

Brittany Renner Asks Court To Increase PJ Washington’s Child Support Payments From $5 To ‘At Least’ $35K
On October 1, we previously shared that Renner was ready to make her baller baby daddy dig deeper into his pockets for their 4-year-old son. At the time, TMZ first reported that Renner asked a judge to increase the monthly child support from $5,500 to “at least $35,000,” a more appropriate amount for a kid with a rich daddy.
In the docs, Renner claimed when she and Washington first agreed on the $5,500, they were together living in Charlotte, NC. However, the model noted things had drastically changed since she and her son moved to California late 2024.
She said she “cannot afford the high cost of living given the current child support orders.” Renner also added that with Washington only using “less than 1/2 of the visitation time he is entitled to,” she is now “struggling to make ends meet.” She added, “I cannot provide [our son] a life anywhere similar to that of his father.”

Renner claimed she was making around $10,000 per month while filming for ‘Basketball Wives: Los Angeles.’ Other than that, she claimed to have no other income and that her assets include $81 in cash and bank accounts. She said, “Given [Washington’s] financial situation, I believe Paul III deserves to share in his father’s station in life. Currently, our home in West Hills is fine for me; however, I do not believe it is good enough for [our son]. I wish for Paul III to live in a home similar to that of his father and his half-siblings.”
Renner continued to highlight that Washington — who’d just signed a new, four-year $90 million contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks — lives a luxurious life with his wife and their children, and so should his son with Renner. She said, they “have multiple luxury vehicles, constantly post their designer shopping clothes, and boast about luxury vacations.” She added, “They also constantly post their children wearing designer clothing. In contrast, I live in a humble Airbnb rental in West Hills and shop for [our son’s] clothes at Target.”
In addition to her $35,000 monthly child support request, Renner also asked that Washington cover her attorney’s fees, totaling at least $50,000. The parents were then scheduled to appear back in court in November.
PJ Washington Fighting Brittany Renner’s Request To Increase $5K Monthly Child Support To $35K
On Friday (October 17), PJ Washington reportedly fired back against Brittany Renner’s request to increase their son’s monthly child support from $5,500 to $35,000. According to Us Weekly, Washington called her move “improper,” and he’s now seeking to dismiss Renner’s entire case she filed in California, despite first filing in North Carolina.
In the docs, he highlighted the importance of the current child support order stemming from a court case in North Carolina. He claimed that during his battle with Renner, the court found her in civil contempt for denying Washington court-appointed parenting time.
In the docs, Washington continued to claim that he and Renner settled the case before the scheduled trial in North Carolina. He said that Renner, at that time, agreed the $5,500 amount was sufficient for their son’s needs. Additionally, Washington said, as part of the deal, he agreed to pay 100% of their son’s private school tuition and all childcare expenses. He also added they agreed to share joint custody.
PJ Washington Wants Brittany Renner’s California Child Support Case Dismissed Since Original Case Began In North Carolina
Per Us Weekly, Washington said, “Less than one year after agreeing” to the current curt order, Renner filed a new case in California court instead of a North Carolina court. He reportedly claimed the move is something he’d expect from his ex.
Washington continued to argue that the California court has no jurisdiction over him since he has no ties to the state as he currently lives in Texas. He noted that he only found out about the new case through social media, adding that his ex sent the court notice to a home he put on the market.
In the filing, Washington’s lawyer, Patrick Baghdaserians, said, “He comes to California on short trips to play basketball, and he has less than 10 games per year in California. Except for the basketball games, he has only been to California once or twice for non-work purposes since Paul III was born in 2021.” The lawyer continued to highlight that Washington’s son was not conceived in California, “but in North Carolina.”
Washington later declared:
“I do not, and have never consented for a California court to modify the child support order entered by the North Carolina court. I have never filed such consents in a record in the North Carolina court. I did not engage in sexual intercourse in California that might have caused Brittany’s pregnancy with Paul III. Paul III was conceived in North Carolina.
During the entire period of my relationship with Brittany, we visited California together only once, for a couple of days. I am a professional basketball player. Occasionally, my team has basketball games in California. When Paul III was born, I was playing for the Charlotte Hornets and I would play less than five games in California each year.
In February 2024, I was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, and I have been playing less than ten games a year in California since then. Excluding these work-related trips, I have only visited California once or twice for non-work purposes since Paul III was born.”
