Nick Cannon admits he’s not the best when it comes to monogamy and relationships. The 41-year-old appeared in an episode of the “All the Way with Shelley Wade” podcast on Sunday to discuss his thought-provoking love life, which has quite literally seen him welcome more and more kids every time the “Wild’ N Out” star finds himself making headlines.
During his chat on the aforementioned podcast, Nick stated that while he is open to the idea of getting married again somewhere down the line, he’s faced endless hurdles in his personal life that have prevented him from actually committing himself to just one person. “I’ve failed miserably so many times at monogamy, but God ain’t done with me,” he insisted. “I’m a hopeless romantic at the end of the day, so I love the concept, I love the ceremony of it.”

As he continues to grow as a person, Nick said it wouldn’t be fair for him to rule out the possibility of tying the knot again, especially once he’s found “someone who will understand me and can stand by me.” The San Diego native, who was formerly married to Mariah Carey, added that for him to consider marriage, his other half would have to be able to “hold me down through all the madness and toxicity.”
His comments come just a month after stressing that getting married by having the government involved isn’t something that appeals to him. If it’s up to him, he would like to hold a simple ceremony without any legal ties attached to it. “It depends on what you call marriage – getting the government involved, nah – we can go have a ceremony somewhere,” he stressed.
As fans will know, Nick was married to Mariah for a whopping eight years, from 2008 to 2016, during which time they also welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan, who are both 11. And while he describes his marriage with the “Shake It Off” singer as one of the greatest experiences of his life, when the relationship ended, it made him become skeptical about getting married again in the future.
“Why would I go back if I couldn’t make that work out right?” he shared. “Once I gave my all to a scenario, going forward, I’d have to be presented with something I’ve never seen before in order to go back to something like that.”
“I did my best in this space, and now I feel like there’s a new journey in my life. I’m not going to backtrack and put myself in that situation again because it doesn’t get better than that.”
Aside from his twins with Mariah, Nick is also a dad to Golden, 5, Powerful, 18 months, twins Zion and Zillion, and his late son Zen, who passed away in December after battling brain cancer. He currently has a baby on the way with model Bre Tiesi, while TMZ reports another child with Abby De La Rosa (whom he already shares Zion and Zillion with) is due in the fall.
