Officials at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport discovered the baby boy while performing a routine customs check on the aircraft. According to the BBC, the boy’s birth took place on New Years Day during a flight from Madagascar to the capital city of Port Louis. Authorities arrested a 20-year-old woman who initially denied that the baby was hers but was ordered to undergo a medical exam to confirm her statement. Results proved she recently gave birth during the flight.

She came to the city on a two-year work permit and was placed under police supervision at a local hospital. The baby is reported to be doing well and police added that the woman will be charged with child abandonment once she’s discharged from the hospital.
