Netflix Removes Jeffrey Dahmer Series From Its LGBTQ Section Following Intense Backlash: ‘It’s Pretty Gross’

The LGBTQ community was left outraged after Netflix decided to list its popular series, “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” under its LGBTQ section — so much that the streaming giant has now reacted to the backlash by stripping the show from that category. “Dahmer” became the most-watched series on Netflix last week, but an updated tag under its description left people outraged, saying they didn’t think that using the LGBTQ tag was appropriate by any means.

The show is centered around the real-life events that occurred between 1978 and 1991 when Dahmer murdered 17 men and young boys, many of whom were young queer guys of color. And despite its well-received reviews from critics and viewers, some fans were clearly not happy with Netflix thinking it was okay to place the show under its “LGBTQ” section, which sparked a huge backlash on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.

“No way they put an LGBTQ tag on the new Dahmer series like PLEASE,” one of the viral tweets on Twitter read. Another person added, “If I need to stay in my lane absolutely tell me but anyone else think it’s pretty gross of Netflix to list Dahmer under LGBTQ, especially when the True Crime tag would have worked?” Netflix quietly made the change this week, but the firm has yet to issue a statement regarding the mishap.

In its first seven days, the Netflix show gained close to 200 million hours of watch time on the platform and was ranked as the number one series currently being watched by its worldwide subscribers.

“American Horror Story” star Evan Peters takes center stage, playing the role of the infamous convicted killer, who was imprisoned in 1992 and killed two years later during a bloody beat-down from fellow inmate Christopher Scarver at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin.

“Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” has undoubtedly attracted the biggest buzz on Netflix in quite some time, thanks to those who have kept the conversation going on social media, with viral tweets from people saying they felt “sorry” for the deranged murderer, who’d been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and schizotypal personality disorder.

Following his death in 1992, his body was cremated, with his ashes being given to his parents.
