Taraji P. Henson attempted to spread joy by presenting flowers to celebrities in the audience at the BET Awards on Sunday, but her well-intentioned gesture was blurred by several awkward mishaps.
When the host caught sight of nominee Halle Bailey in the audience, she came to a sudden halt, but stumbled over the singer’s name, pronouncing it as “hay-lee” instead of the correct “howl-lee”.
After her encounter with Halle Bailey, Henson, who had compared the event to a “family reunion,” proceeded through Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater. She then came across TikToker Jordan Howlett, also known as Jordan Thee Stallion, whom she jokingly described as a “Method Man look-alike.”
“Meth is married, are you?” Henson inquired before realizing her mistake and clarifying to the audience that she had mistaken Howlett for another TikToker, food critic Keith Lee.
“Mr. Keith Lee, I know what you’re thinking right now, this is about a 10.9 outta 10?” she asked Howlett, playing on Lee’s catchphrase. Howlett promptly corrected Henson by gesturing towards Lee and his wife, Ronni, who were seated beside him in the audience.
“I got caught up in my own inner monologue, I’m so sorry,” Henson told Lee before repeating her “10.9″ line to the food critic.
Well it seems like Keith Lee didn’t take the moment too lightly because after the show the food critic tossed the rose that Taraji P. Henson gave him on the group and wrote an interesting caption before deleting the video from his TikTok account.
“Our name will be known in every room it’s supposed to be, when it’s supposed to be, how it’s supposed, with no confusion 💕 God is amazing 🙏🏽 #thankful.”
