Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Upset With LeBron James For Covid-19 Spider Man Meme: Calling It A “Blow To His Worthy Legacy”

Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is not too pleased by a COVID-19 meme Lakers superstar LeBron James posted on social media a few days ago. The NBA legend seems to think Lebron posting that meme could have a negative impact on the black community.

Lebron James shared a meme on Christmas Eve, which is the Spider-Man pointing meme that shows three cartoon superheroes titled “cold,” “flu” and “covid” pointing at one another, and writing a caption that reads “Help me out folks,” followed by a shrugging emoji.

On Monday, Dec. 27, Abdul-Jabbar spoke to Substack to open up about James’ post, calling it “a blow to his worthy legacy.” The 74-year-old continued, adding that “the meme implies that LeBron doesn’t understand the difference among these three illnesses, even after all the information that’s been presented in the press.”

Abdul-Jabbar took a step back from his criticisms by congratulating James for his play on the court and work off the court to be a leader in the African-American community. However, Abdul-Jabbar stated that James’ post and off-season opinion regarding the COVID-19 vaccine could hurt the Black community.

In response to a comment, LeBron made back in September about his stance on the vaccine Abdul-Jabbar answered with the statistics that in 2021, “the communities of People of Color are still suffering at a much higher rate than white communities.”

“In November 2021, the CDC stated, ‘It has highlighted that health equity is still not a reality as COVID-19 has unequally affected many racial and ethnic minority groups, putting them more at risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19,’” Abdul-Jabbar shared.

As covid cases continue to rise, #Socialites do you think Lebron James was taking it too far by posting that meme?
