According to TMZ, McClain died Tuesday in Malibu. Sources told the outlet that he had been battling health issues for years. However, it has not been confirmed whether an illness was the cause of death. McClain built a decades-long career in the music industry and played a pivotal role behind the scenes of some of the biggest names in entertainment.

Career Spanned Generations of Iconic Artists

McClain was widely known as a veteran music executive and producer. He contributed to major projects for Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, helping shape defining moments in pop and R&B history. He also worked with artists like Ice Cube and Dr. Dre.

As an A&R executive at A&M Records, McClain supervised the production of Janet Jackson’s groundbreaking album “Control,” a project that helped redefine her career and solidify her independence as an artist.

He also played a role in signing and developing new talent during his tenure at the label.

Role in Michael Jackson’s Estate

In 2009, following Michael Jackson’s death, McClain and John Branca were appointed co-executors of the late singer’s estate.

Together, they oversaw projects that significantly stabilized and rebuilt the estate’s financial standing.

Under their leadership, ventures such as the “Michael” biopic, the Broadway musical “MJ,” posthumous album releases, and Michael Jackson ONE in Las Vegas helped transform the estate into one of the most successful in entertainment history.

McClain’s impact extended beyond contracts and balance sheets. His influence helped preserve and expand one of the most powerful legacies in music.
