It’s been a few months since the world lost beloved rapper Takeoff. While his tragic death is still hard for many people to accept, his loyal fans and family have promised to keep his legacy alive.

Takeoff’s uncle and fellow Migos member Quavo is set to pay tribute to him this Sunday at the Grammys, where he is set to take the stage alongside Maverick City Music choir. They will be joining him to perform “Without You” for the In Memoriam segment.

Sources close to us shared that Quavo will be doing the tribute without groupmate Offset. As of right now it is unclear as to why he won’t be joining him but the “Legacy” rapper will also be in attendance for the awards show. The source familiar with the performance added that “although it is going to be a touching moment, Quavo performing it with Offset sitting in the audience is going to be extremely awkward.”

We reached out to the Recording Academy for an official statement but none was provided at the time we published this article.

More On Takeoff’s Tragic Death

Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, was one of three people police said were shot outside a Houston bowling alley around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 1, when a dispute erupted as about 40 people were leaving a private party at the alley. Police said at the time another man and a woman suffered non-life-threatening gunshot injuries during the shooting, in which at least two people opened fire.

Takeoff, who was the youngest member of Migos, died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso during the shooting. While it was originally believed that he died as a result of a stray bullet, the Houston police later concluded his death was a homicide. He was just 28 years old.

Who Was Responsible For His Death?

Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, was arrested on Dec. 1 on a murder charge. His attorney, Letitia Quinones, has said Clark has a “valid and meritorious claim for self-defense.” As we previously reported last month, Clark was released from the Harris County jail on a $1M bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 9.

A second suspect, Cameron Joshua, 22, was also arrested in connection to Takeoff’s death and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, police said.

More On Quavo And Takeoff’s Relationship

Before Takeoff’s tragic death, he and Quavo released an album together “Only Built For Infinity Links.” The two had plans with their music but unfortunately could no longer happen due to his unexpected passing.

As hard as it’s been for Quavo, he has issued a heartfelt statement to honor his nephew and Migos collaborator:

“I’m proud to be ya uncle,” Quavo previously wrote on Instagram. “I’m proud we saw the world and done things we couldn’t ever imagine together. We laughed way more than we ever argued and when we did I always was in the wrong every time. […] You will continue to send your blessings down from Heaven and I will continue to keep your name alive as long as I live.”

Quavo continued, “I love you with all my heart. I’ll never leave you. l, guess God just ain’t need my help. So can you ask Him for me what I gotta do to be with you again!!! In a place where there’s no pain, no demons, no jealousy, no envy, no greed. Whatever we have to do God to be at that place of paradise send us the tools now cuz we wanna be with Take. Love you nephew!”
