Tyler Perry is ready for a major life change. The 57-year-old entertainment mogul revealed on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle this Monday that he’s planning to relocate to Puerto Rico with his 11-year-old son, Aman, at the start of 2027.
When asked if he ever plans to “chill out” after his decades-long career, Perry was clear: “Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot.”
Perry, who just celebrated his birthday, shared that the decision to step back is driven by a desire to prioritize his time as he gets older. “Getting older [inspired this],” he said. “It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”
Perry shares Aman with his ex-girlfriend, Gelila Bekele, whom he dated from 2009 to 2020. During the interview, he also shut down any speculation about his personal life, confirming that he has no plans to get married. “At this age, no, that’s not a good idea for me. So no, won’t be any marriage for me,” he said.

The news follows the recent release of Why Did I Get Married Again?, the latest chapter in his hit franchise. Beyond the screen, Perry has continued his long history of philanthropy. Just this past July, he made headlines for covering the remaining tuition balance for a student pursuing a graduate degree at Harvard, and in September, he stepped in to help an 81-year-old Illinois woman who was facing a massive $18,000 debt after a pipe burst in her home.
