The once “untouchable” Hollywood power broker was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday, more than a year after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting former “Project Runway” production assistant Miriam Haley in a high-stakes retrial. And this time, it stuck.

Appearing in a NYC courtroom in a wheelchair, Weinstein, 74, ultimately denied the allegations but apologized to “anyone I may have hurt by my actions”. He added, “I am not a perfect person,” he said. “But I am a person who has made mistakes.”
Meanwhile, in a victim impact statement in the courtroom, his accuser, Miriam Haley, said the 2006 sexual assault had a “devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away.”
As many are aware by now, this ain’t Weinstein’s first rodeo in a courtroom. Back in 2020, he was first sentenced to 23 years for rape and criminal sex act convictions tied to Haley and aspiring actress Jessica Mann, a verdict that basically kicked off the #MeToo movement as we know it.
But in a twist that had survivors and advocates furious, New York’s highest court erased that conviction in 2024, ruling Weinstein was prejudiced by testimony from other women whose allegations weren’t even part of the case. Translation: a technicality gave him a second shot.
So they went back to trial. And in June 2025, Weinstein was again found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual act involving Haley, who testified he forced himself on her in his Manhattan apartment back in 2006. It wasn’t a clean sweep for prosecutors, though, the jury acquitted him on a charge involving another accuser, Kaja Sokola, and couldn’t reach a verdict on the rape charge tied to Mann. After a second hung jury on that count this past May, Manhattan prosecutors dropped the rape charge rather than put Mann through a fourth trial after she said she couldn’t bear to testify again.
Weinstein showed up to court the same way he has for years now, in a wheelchair, hands cuffed to his seat, a far cry from the mogul who once had studios, actors, and journalists bending to his will. Haley didn’t hold back when she got her moment. She made it clear the damage doesn’t just disappear when the gavel drops, telling the court he “abused his position and power,” leaving a “devastating effect” on her life.
Even with that 2024 overturn and a bunch of court pleas, he remained incarcerated due to a 2022 guilty verdict for L.A. sex crimes. He was previously sentenced to 16 years in a California case for rape and sexual assault, and while that conviction was upheld in June, he’s due to be resentenced there as well.
At the end of the day, Weinstein’s already logged more than six years behind bars while his case bounced through appeals, mistrials, and do-overs. Now he’s got 15 more on the books.
