FBI Director Kash Patel and country singer Alexis Wilkins announced their engagement on Sunday, October 4, after about three years together.

Wilkins shared the news on Instagram with a black-and-white photo of the couple that showed her engagement ring. Her caption read, “Went and got the law involved.” Patel reposted the announcement with heart and ring emojis.

Patel, 46, and Wilkins, 27, met at a friend’s event in Nashville in 2022, according to the New York Post, and began dating in early 2023. Wilkins turns 28 on November 3. Patel was sworn in as the ninth FBI director in February 2025, and she can be seen standing beside him at the ceremony holding the Bhagavad Gita for his oath.

She later described him as “the most loyal, the most kind, the most caring person.” From the podium, Patel thanked his family and friends and singled her out as his “beautiful girlfriend.”

Wilkins is a Belmont University graduate who has released country music for at least five years and once served as press secretary for Arizona Representative Abe Hamadeh. She has also performed at Turning Point USA events and sang the national anthem at a National Religious Broadcasters event in Nashville.

Of course, their relationship has sparked controversy online. Just last year, congressional Democrats opened an investigation into Patel’s use of a private jet to visit Wilkins. Patel defended the travel on a podcast, saying he is not permitted to fly commercial and pays for his own travel. He added that if he were abusing the privilege, he would attend every one of her shows, and that he goes to roughly “15 percent.”

Wilkins has also been the target of online conspiracy theories. Some critics have called her an “Israeli honeypot,” a claim she has repeatedly denied. She filed a $5 million defamation suit against podcaster Kyle Seraphin, who she says accused her of being an Israeli spy. A representative has said Wilkins now has a protective detail drawn from FBI agents who typically work on a SWAT team, because she has received hundreds of credible death threats tied to her relationship with Patel.

Despite what many think, their supporters have been congratulating them on their big news.
