Fatman Scoop’s Official Cause Of Death Revealed

The Connecticut medical examiner’s office has officially determined the cause of death for rapper and DJ Fatman Scoop.

A spokesperson from the office revealed that the artist, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease at the age of 53.

As previously reported, Scoop experienced a medical emergency during his performance in Hamden on August 30, when he suddenly collapsed on stage. Footage that circulated online captured the moments leading up to his collapse, showing him actively engaging and energizing the crowd before falling. Medical personnel were seen rushing to the stage, where they appeared to administer CPR in an effort to revive him. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

His family and tour manager, Birch Michael, broke the heartbreaking news publicly with fans: “It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop,” a post on his Instagram page read on behalf of his family. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.” He added, “FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage,” the tribute continued.

Fatman Scoop, born on November 28, 1971, gained widespread recognition in the early 2000s over his distinctive voice and energetic performances. He had tons of hit singles under his belt, one most notably “Be Faithful,” which became a dance anthem and reached the top of the charts in several countries. Scoop is also known for his collaborations with various artists, including his work with the Black Eyed Peas on “Pump It” and his contributions to tracks like “Put Your Hands Up” and “Lose Control.” Beyond his music career, he has hosted radio shows and appeared on television. With a career spanning decades, Fatman Scoop’s influence in the hip-hop and dance music scenes is significant, made him a notable and well-respected figure in the entertainment industry.

His family who previously released a statement remember him as “infectious.” They continued, “His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity,” adding that “the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”
