Nathan Kane expressed “Hatred and mixed emotions today” in response to his mother’s death on Tuesday. According to Page Six, Eminem has not yet made a public statement about her passing. Nate’s reaction follows a long-standing estrangement from his mother, Debbie. When he was eight years old, Nate entered foster care, and Eminem later adopted him at the age of 16. Years before her death, Debbe addressed her estrangement from her sons in a 2008 interview with the Village Voice: “I’m not ever gonna give up on my kids. I won’t give up on anybody. There’s hope for everybody. It’s a matter of just basically swallowing your pride. It’s like a cashed check. It’s over, it’s done. You need to move on.”
Debbie Nelson passed away at the age of 69 after battling lung cancer. Just three months before her death, a close source told InTouch Weekly that she was “terminally ill.” In September, it was revealed that Debbie had been alternating between a cancer center and staying with family members. The source also mentioned that Eminem had provided financial support to his mother, but he had not communicated with her or any family members in Missouri for several years.
Eminem has previously rapped about his relationship with his mother in the 2013 track “Headlights,” but his most famous song about Debbie is the 2002 hit “Cleaning Out My Closet.”
Debbie previously congratulated Enimem for his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2022, and fans also expressed their condolences.
