Dang! #Socialites, get into this! According to producer Lil CC, Drake dropped 20,000 bands on a beat she produced that ended up becoming the foundation for his hit 2019 song “Money In The Grave,” featuring Rick Ross. If you recall, he even shouted her out in the song a couple times. At the open, he said, “Lil CC on the beat.” And later on the track, he rapped, “Lil CC let it slap with the bass.”
Lil CC, who is a 25-year-old producer and model, recently opened up about her fast-rising career in the music industry, including the moment when Drake’s hit song took her career to a whole ‘nother level! While appearing on Shirley’s Temple, Lil CC, real name Cydney Christine, claimed that Drizzy paid her $20,000 for the “Money In The Grave” beat — which she also revealed was her first major placement.
Prior to making her big reveal, CC recalled how she first started making beats. She said that she first learned how to produce a beat when she was in high school, and that at first, it was just a hobby and for fun. She said she was around 17 or 18 when she first learned; however, she added, “I never thought it was a career. Or would ever take it as a career. It was just for fun.”
The beatmaker then said after her other friends in the industry, who were actual producers and creators, told her she might as well do it for real, that is when she began to take things seriously. She said it “inspired [her] a lot.”
When asked by host Shirley Ju how much she sold her first beat for, she revealed it was Drake who she got her first placement with, and who paid her 20,000 racks. Lil CC admitted, “My first beat was ‘Money in the Grave,’ I think it was $20,000.”
Recalling how she felt in the moment, Lil CC said, “It was crazy, I was like, ‘I f**k with this n***a.’ I was like, ‘Wow.’ Just knowing someone believed in me that much and supported what I did… [It] made me want to go even harder.”

When reminded of how Drake shouted her out on the track, she mentioned she doesn’t really have a tag, but it could be cool if she made the shoutout her producer tag on future beats. She admitted, “That’s not my tag. I mean, I’ve never used it on anything that’s out. Maybe I should get one.”
When asked what her reaction was when she heard the song. She said, “I heard it before everyone else heard it. It was sent in a video [to me]. It’s crazy, I was in a changing room. I was modeling for Missguided in England, and I was in the changing room when I was listening to it when I was changing into my next outfit.”
The producer continued to recall, “I was like, ‘What the f**k?!’ Everybody was like, ‘Are you ok?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m ok. I’m REAL ok. I’m REAL ok.’ I was so happy to shoot the rest of that day. I was smiling in every picture, I couldn’t stop smiling.”
Lil CC added, “I remember there was one other model, there she barely spoke English, but she knew who Drake was, and she was the first person that I told because when I was all the way over there, I didn’t have friends to talk with because they’re asleep in America. So, I’m like, barely trying to talk to this girl in another language, and she could understand me a little bit. So, luckily, she knew who Drake was. I played the song and she was like, ‘He’s talking about you.’ She was loosing her mind, talking in a different language. So, yeah that was funny. That was the day, [when] I found out I told her.”
Back in 2019, Lil CC told Complex that she met Drake at a post-Grammys party and that two years after they met, they ran into each other again and asked if she was still making beats. At the time, she said she was focusing on modeling, but Drake insisted that she send him something, and that’s how “Money In The Grave” came to be.
