For those unknowing, ILoveMakonnen was an artist on Drake’s OVO record label, but his time with the team was short lived.

Shortly after the rapper’s song “Tuesday” blew up, the two artists would end up having a falling out, which led to ILoveMakonnen leaving the label less than two years after he got his record deal.

Recalling his falling out with Drake, Makonnen spoke with NPR Music and shared new details about the situation. The 34-year-old ended up revealing that things really went south in their relationship after performing at the 2015 Wireless Festival.

Makonnen said, “That’s when I knew something was weird. Just ’cause when I came out on set … and I started losing weight too, right — Drake had made a little joke like, ‘He a little Eric Benét-a** looking n***a.’ You know, like, ha-ha. And then I just started to feel this vibe.”

Makonnen said that after the slick comment was made, he shortly went on stage with Drizzy, with the intentions of performing a verse. However, he recalled, “As I was supposed to go into my verse, they just cut it.”

Furthermore, two years later, on January 20, 2017, the “Tuesday” rapper would come out as gay on Twitter. He wrote, “As a fashion icon, I can’t tell u about everybody else’s closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it’s time I’ve come out.” He added, “And since y’all love breaking news, here’s some old news to break, I’m gay. And now I’ve told u about my life, maybe u can go (live) yours.”

On Instagram, he added, “Thank you for letting me be myself.”

Since Makonnen came out two years after the alleged Wireless Festival incident, he noted in his interview that Drake did not take up an issue with him because of his sexuality. The rapper said that their issue came after some old tweets he posted about Drake.

Recalling one Twitter user who called for him to be kicked off the label, Makonnen said, “Y’all need to drop him because he said your song ‘Practice’ was lame back in 2011.” He added that his comments were not sent with ill will, and that it was just being playfully shady with his boss. He added, “[It’s] our little outlet. That’s our only way of attention. It ain’t nothing personal.”

By the end of his interview with NPR, Makonnen did admit that his relationship with Drake more than likely reached its peak when he rapped about their rumored beef while delivering a freestyle on Time Westwood‘s show.

During the freestyle, he not only reference their beef, but rapped over beats released by Drizzy. Makonnen told NPR, “Everybody was saying, ‘You’re going after Drake.”
