A Virginia deputy is facing several charges after he was caught faking a roadside attack on Saturday.

According to the New York Post, Jake Preston Dooley,22, claimed he was heading home after his shift Friday night. Allegedly, the deputy was pulled over to remove an object from the middle of the road and after he finished, a unidentified stranger yelled at him then knocked him unconscious. A few minutes later, a passerby saw Dooley on the ground and contacted 911.
The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that detectives found no evidence of the attack.
“Detectives thoroughly and vigorously investigated the allegation and determined the incident reported by the deputy was false,”

Dooley was charged with falsely summonsing law enforcement and obstruction of justice.
A statement was also released by Sheriff Robert P. Mosier apologizing for the situation. He says, “We truly regret that this happened but find a tremendous amount of comfort in the knowledge that our community understands and supports law enforcement in Fauquier County.”
