The announcement was made Sunday by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and it entails temporary $300 per week unemployment benefits, $600 stimulus payments for the majority of the American population. It also includes new subsidies for businesses that have been affected the most by the pandemic and funds for schools, medical centers, and renters that are facing possible eviction.
Prior to the decision, President Trump went on Twitter to criticize Congress for not agreeing on a decision. He also blamed China, claiming it was not the fault of the American people for the pandemic. He tweets, “Why isn’t Congress giving our people a Stimulus Bill? It wasn’t their fault, it was the fault of China. GET IT DONE, and give them more money in direct payments.”
