Chris Rock has been getting a lot of backlash after making a joke where he compared getting slapped at the Oscars to the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson — and now her sister is weighing in, and she’s certainly not amused. Rock performed a stand-up show in Phoenix on Sunday where he told fans he would not be returning to the Academy Awards after what transpired back in March.
He said that attending the Oscars again would be like Simpson going “back to the restaurant” where she had left her glasses before she was brutally stabbed to death outside of her home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Now, according to TMZ, the sister of the slain mother of two is speaking out by calling the joke tasteless and uncalled for, telling the publication that the comment lacked “logic and a basic connection.”

Brown deemed the comment as highly inappropriate and insensitive to not just her but the entire family, who continue to grieve the loss of Simpson 28 years after her passing, so when jokes are being made at their expense pertaining to the loss of their loved one, the situation isn’t and never will be a laughing matter to them.
As most will recall, Simpson and her male acquaintance Ron Goldman were killed in a double homicide on June 12, 1994, with O.J. Simpson later being accused of being the suspect connected to the killings. In one of the most-watched trials in history, the ex-football player, who was married to Simpson from 1985 to 1992 was acquitted of the murders but later found liable for both deaths in a 1997 civil lawsuit.

Rock has made it no secret that he has not been on good terms with Will Smith, who served him with the slap at the Academy Awards earlier this year over a joke the comedian made about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s buzzcut hairstyle. The “Red Table Talk” host has been battling a medical condition called alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that causes the hair to fall out and often leads to balding.
“The more Chris Rock talks, the more you begin to see why Will Smith smacked fire outta him,” one person said in response to Rock’s joke about Simpson’s murder. Another echoed similar words as they sarcastically said, “Yeah chris rock – you getting slapped for talking s–t and nicole brown simpson’s brutal murder are totally comparable events. great analogy. you totally care about violence against women. fully clear to us now.”
