Chris Brown has expressed his strong desire to perform in South Africa, even in the face of backlash from Women For Change, who are advocating against his concerts.
As we previously reported the singer is scheduled to take the stage at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on December 14 and 15, with the concert on December 15 already sold out. This situation highlights his previous domestic violence incident and other allegations that have been reported on.
A petition initiated by the women’s rights activist group urges concert organizer Big Concerts and sponsors to reconsider their support for the upcoming performances, calling for the cancellation of the concerts and requesting that home affairs revoke Chris Brown’s visa to prevent him from performing.
As of Wednesday, October 16, the petition has already gathered over 30,000 signatures, reflecting a significant outpouring of concern and solidarity among those advocating for women’s rights.
On change.org the group explained why they want Brown’s concerts to be cancelled.
“Chris Brown has a well-documented history of violence towards several women. In 2009, he was convicted of brutally assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, a case that sparked global outrage. Despite his conviction, his troubling behaviour has continued, with multiple accusations of violence against other women. The Chris Brown: A History of Violence documentary will premiere this October.”
On Monday, Chris Brown responded in the comments section of the Women For Change post, expressing his enthusiasm by saying, “Can’t wait to come.”
Additionally, he shared a photo on his timeline wearing a balaclava adorned with South African prints. “I’m stepping on sh*t,” he captioned the post.
