A Miami-Dade mother is behind bars after a disturbing sequence of events that left authorities stunned. 26-year-old Meliza Campos-Sanchez is facing serious charges, including child abuse, child neglect, and arson, following a terrifying incident at her home.

According to arrest reports, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Sunday regarding an intentional fire set in the kitchen of a residence on the 4200 block of Southwest 95th Avenue.

Following the incident, Campos-Sanchez was initially transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation under the Baker Act. However, the situation took a dark turn when investigators discovered two videos she had posted to her Instagram account. One video allegedly showed her using lit candles to pour melted wax on her own leg before doing the same to the hands of one of her two daughters, ages 6 and 3.

The second video captured her singing and dancing in the kitchen while holding a lighter. In the clip, she drops two articles of clothing on the floor, sprays them with a liquid—believed to be rubbing alcohol—and sets them ablaze.

The older daughter later told investigators that after her mother ignited the fire, she used a bowl of water to put out the flames. Authorities eventually recovered fire-damaged clothing from a trash can outside the home.

Investigators spoke with Campos-Sanchez’s husband, who revealed that the couple had been experiencing marital issues and that he had been staying with his parents. He also noted that Campos-Sanchez had previously attempted suicide by tying a rope in the rafters.

After being released from the hospital, Campos-Sanchez was booked into jail. She has since appeared before a judge, who appointed a public defender and ordered her held without bond. Records also indicate she is currently facing an immigration hold.
