The Center for Disease Control and Prevention revised these guidelines after making an error last month claiming that the virus could be spread through aerosols but was quickly removed due to draft changes. Their statement says further reports claimed, “limited, uncommon circumstances where people with COVID-19 infected others who were more than 6 feet away or shortly after the COVID-19-positive person left an area.”
As reported by CNBC, the CDC also noted that it is more common for the virus to spread quickly through large respiratory droplets that are produced through talking, sneezing, singing, talking, and breathing. However, an individual can become infected when in close contact with an infected individual.

However, the agency continues to enforce the public to practice social distancing guidelines and wear face coverings along with practicing proper hygiene such as hand washing.
“People can protect themselves from the virus that causes COVID-19 by staying at least 6 feet away from others, wearing a mask that covers their nose and mouth, washing their hands frequently, cleaning touched surfaces often and staying home when sick.”
