8-Year-Old Boy Killed During Alabama Mall Shooting

An Alabama family is currently mourning the loss of their little boy who was killed Friday afternoon. Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis said a girl and two adults were also injured and hospitalized after the incident.

While police did not give a motive for the shooting, Derzis said police are working on promising leads. However, it was not shared if they had identified any suspects. ”This is certainly a tragic situation when you have an innocent child who gets caught in the middle of an altercation between others,” Derzis said.

Giles Jr. was a student at Jonesboro Elementary School in Bessemer, who had recently completed the second grade. Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato said he visited with the boy’s parents Friday evening:

“This was just a very senseless tragedy and of course they are devastated by this,” Brocato said. He asked residents in the city to pray for the family.”

Hoover police asked anyone who was in the mall and witnessed the shooting to call authorities. The Riverchase Galleria will remain closed Sunday, July 5th, according to the shopping center’s public relations spokesperson.

UPDATE: SoCal “Karen” Charged With Battery, Arrest Warrant Issued

Socialites, do you remember “staircase” Karen, the 56-year-old woman from SoCal who spewed multiple racist tirades in Southern California including at a woman for working out in a public park? Well, according to the latest updates, she has just been charged.

RELATED: UPDATE: “Staircase Karen” Named Suspect In 3 Racial Incidents — Identity Revealed

NBC News Los Angeles reports that the Torrance City Attorney’s Office charged Lena Hernandez with misdemeanor battery. It was also said that the Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has issued an arrest warrant for Hernandez, who has not been apprehended yet.

As TMZ notes, the battery charges are related to an incident that occurred back October at a mall in Torrance and were reported to police later that day.

In addition to the viral staircase incident and the one that happened on Oct. 11, she was named a suspect in multiple racial incidents in Southern California. In another viral video, a Torrance father who is also Asian American, recorded the woman while she berated him in front of his 11-year-old son, who sat in the car.

While it’s unclear if he filed a report against her, law enforcement sources told TMZ there is not enough evidence for prosecutors to file criminal charges against Hernandez for the “staircase” incident at the park.

Arkansas Daycare Kicks 6-Year-Old Out For Wearing Black Lives Matter Shirt

Arkansas Daycare Kicks 6-Year-Old Out For Wearing Black Lives Matter Shirt

RIDICULOUS! An Arkansas mother says her six-year-old daughter was kicked out of daycare all because she wore a Black Lives Matter shirt!

According to area outlet FOX 16, little Journei Brockman attended daycare at “His Kids Preschool” for six months. However, she was told last Friday she could not return.

Deval Brockman, the little girl’s mother, told the news outlet that her daughter’s school called her last Thursday, explaining that an employee told her she didn’t “like” or “agree” with the shirt. Apparently, the employee also asked that Brockman not send her daughter back to the school wearing it again. However, Journei Brockman returned to daycare last Friday, wearing a different shirt with an image of a raised fist printed on the back. But, when Deval Brockman picked her daughter up at the end of the day, she was told that her daughter was no longer welcome at the school.

“I got very upset. I’m just like are you serious? Over a T-shirt?” Brockman said. She claimed that a school director also told her, “I am not going to tell you how to raise your child, but you need to reevaluate how you’re parenting her.”

Patricia Brown, director of His Kids Preschool, did release a statement to FOX 16, saying, “We feel a childcare environment is not a place for a parent’s political views to be addressed or played out, regardless of race.”

Brockman has filed a complaint with the state.

“If I’m supporting something, I’m going to wear it, my child is going to wear it, to help say that our voice needs to be heard.”

On Friday, it was announced that the Washington Redskins will conduct a “thorough review” of its name following pressure to change it over racial connotations.

In a statement released this morning, the organization explained: “In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the Washington Redskins are announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team’s name. This review formalizes the initial discussions the team has been having with the league in recent weeks.”

Daniel Snyder, the NFL team’s owner also weighed in on the move: “This process allows the team to take into account not only the proud tradition and history of the franchise but also input from our alumni, the organization, sponsors, the National Football League and the local community it is proud to represent on and off the field.”

Meanwhile, Redskins coach Ron Rivera said the issue was in “personal importance:”“This issue is of personal importance to me and I look forward to working closely with Dan Snyder to make sure we continue the mission of honoring and supporting Native Americans and our Military,” the coach said.

As we previously reported, several brands announced they would be changing or ending names to avoid controversial or racist overtones. Nestlé said it would rebrand its Red Skins and Chicos sweets, while Quaker Oats said it would retire the Aunt Jemima brand and logo, acknowledging it was based on a racial stereotype. This all comes amid nationwide protests following the recent police killing of George Floyd. It sparked discussions on police brutality, racial inequality and racism.

While ABC has yet to announce the cancellation of “Strahan, Sara and Keke” a spokesperson told the outlet: “We’re proud of our teams at ‘SSK’ and ‘GMA3’ and how quickly they transitioned to producing a daily show to give people the news and information they need during an unprecedented pandemic, and conversations continue about how the show will evolve in the months ahead.”

Jay-Z’s Team Roc Calls For Prosecution Of Wisconsin Police Officer Who Killed Three Men

Jay-Z’s Team Roc Calls For Prosecution Of Wisconsin Police Officer Who Killed Three Men

Jay-Z’s social justice organization Team Roc is calling for the termination and prosecution of Wisconsin police officer Joseph Mensah. As it was reported, Mensah killed a total of three men of color within a five year span.

RELATED: JAY-Z’s Team Roc Calls For Charges To Be Dismissed Against Peaceful Protester

In 2015, Mensah fired eight shots to kill Antonio Gonzales. In 2016, he fired six bullets, killing a man named Jay Anderson, and in February, he used five shots to kill Alvin Cole, after he shouted “no gun.” Mensah used a total of 19 shots. The news site reports that he allegedly failed to administer CPR to the victims in each case. He also failed to engage his dash camera in 2 of the incidents.

In response to Mensah’s reckless behavior, Jay and Team Roc have decided to put out a full-page ad addressed to District Attorney John Chisholm, in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The letter reads:

“How many more people must die at the hands of Officer Joseph Mensah?” the ad says. “Since joining the Wauwatosa Police Department in 2015, Mensah has shot and killed THREE men of color— Alvin Cole, Antonio Gonzales and Jay Anderson — with an excessive total of NINETEEN fired shots. His actions demonstrate an utter disregard for the lives of these young men.”

The letter also says;

“If you fail to prosecute Mensah, you’re doing a disservice to the legacies of Alvin Cole, Antonio Gonzales and Jay Anderson, ignoring the lives of black, brown and LGBTQ citizens in your county and essentially allowing for the possibility of a future catastrophe,” said the advertisement in the Journal Sentinel.”

While the department hasn’t released a statement in response to the letter, just last month, following protests demanding justice for the three deaths, the Wauwatosa Police Department actually defended Mensah’s actions in a statement.

“Each incident happened very quickly and verbal commands were given and not complied with. He defended himself with deadly force,” the department said.

However, Mensah is currently on administrative leave pending District Attorney Chisholm’s decision about whether or not to file charges against him.

Alabama Students Throw ‘COVID Parties’ To See Who Gets Infected

Alabama Students Throw ‘COVID Parties’ To See Who Gets Infected

On Wednesday, Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry shared that students in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, have been throwing “COVID parties” with cash rewards to intentionally infect each other with the coronavirus!

While speaking with ABC News, McKinstry explained that several of the students who have been recently diagnosed with Coronavirus have been attending parties in the city and surrounding area. McKinstry said organizers of the parties purposely invited guests who have the virus. “They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot. It makes no sense,” McKinstry told the outlet. “They’re intentionally doing it.”

The strange behavior by students was also confirmed by Tuscaloosa Fire Chief Randy Smith according to local NBC affiliate WVTM 13.

“We thought that was kind of a rumor at first,” Smith told the council members. “We did some research. Not only do the doctors’ offices confirm it but the state confirmed they also had the same information.”

McKinstry said these reckless parties make her “furious, Furious to the fact that something that is so serious and deadly is being taken for granted. Not only is it irresponsible, but you could contract the virus and take it home to your parents or grandparents,” she added.

Despite that, she told ABC News: “We’re trying to break up any parties that we know of.” Arrol Sheehan, spokesperson for the Alabama Department of Public Health, said that a violation of the heath order — which states that people who test positive have to be “quarantined to their place of residence for a period of 14 days” — is a misdemeanor and fines for each violation can be up to $500.

“Suspected violations of the home quarantine order should be reported to law enforcement and the local health department,” she told ABC.

The news site reports that Dream Rich Entertainment sued Meek last month and his record label Dream Chaser along with parent company Atlantic Records of civil conspiracy to commit copyright infringement. Dream Rich alleges that the rapper not only stole its copyrighted songs but, passed them off as his own on his last album, “Championships,” according to BOSSIP citing the company’s complaint.

The music business claims that it acquired the song lyrics and copyrights for “Cold Hearted II” and “100 Summers” in 2018 after its contracted songwriter penned them. However, Dream Rich said in court docs that Meek had access to one of its songwriter’s flies when he helped himself to “100 Summers” and “Cold Hearted II“ — and recorded the copyrighted lyrics and took the title which appeared on his GRAMMY-nominated album. The company said Meek passed the songs off as his own without giving proper credit to the songwriter and is now looking for over $300,000 in damages, BOSSIP reports.

Meek Mill has not publicly commented on these latest reports. However, he has been in an online feud with DJ Akademiks after the rapper asked him to stop posting him.
