Over 300 teens partying at a large gathering last weekend in Texas were exposed to the Coronavirus after attending a “pong fest” party near Lakeway, Texas, on Saturday.
“Unfortunately, our caseload is probably going to increase, and it’s because there was a very large party this past Saturday,” Mayor Cox said in a Facebook video.
The party was held at a private location on June 20. Teens who went to the party later tested positive for COVID-19.
“The city is trying to get a handle on who attended, and the numbers are so big, contact tracing everyone is not possible,” Cox added, per Community Impact Newspaper “Hopefully we can contain this. The worst thing that can happen is that we don’t contain this.”
Everybody who attended the party is urged to quarantine for at least 14 days.
“The virus often hides in the healthy and is given to those who are at grave risk of being hospitalized and dying,” Austin Public Health officials said. “While younger people are at less risk for complications, they are not immune to severe illness and death from COVID-19.”
Lakeway is one of the richest and LEAST diverse Austin Suburbs and the fact that these teenagers went through with “pongfest” without fearing the virus consequences doesnt surprise me at all https://t.co/uILNAxP0O5
