A Canadian woman has filed a lawsuit against a concert venue after she reportedly drove drunk and crashed into a home, causing an explosion.

Danielle Leis, 26, was driving home from a Marilyn Manson concert at the Budweiser Arena in London, Ontario, in August 2019. Leis crashed her Ford Fusion into a home moments later, causing the gas line to rupture, resulting in an explosion that injured seven people and destroyed four homes.
According to the New York Post, the deadly explosion caused several fires in nearby homes, forcing the neighborhood to be evacuated. The damage caused by the explosion was estimated to be between $9.8 million and $14.7 million. Leis later pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving and was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021. However, she decided to sue the concert venue that served her the alcoholic drink before the incident.

Earlier this month, Leis and her father, Shawn, filed a lawsuit against Ovations Ontario Food Services, claiming the company shares liability as staff members allegedly removed Leis from the venue but failed to make sure she would make it home safely. Additionally, the lawsuit alleges Ovations served Leis alcohol while being aware that she was intoxicated, accusing them of putting money over a customer’s wellbeing.
Court documents state the company should be responsible for paying the damages from the 2019 incident, and if Leis has to pay out of pocket, the company should be liable to pay her back.
After the news went viral, Twitter users had several opinions about the lawsuit.
Some Twitter users felt the lawsuit was unnecessary for Leis as she caused damage to the entire neighborhood. One user wrote, “I have been drunk, quite drunk in fact. Never have I ever been “blow up the house” drunk Maybe a few fireworks in the back yard…but this is next level. I don’t think her lawsuit will go well lol.” Another said, “The real crime are the lawyers who would even accept this case. Just like the sicko surgeons who mutilate genitals all day long, I have no earthly idea how they can look into the mirror at themselves and feel good?”
As f'k as the Judicial system is, (Especially in Canada) I can see this BS going through. WHY have personal responsibility when you can sue (& collect) from deep pockets.

She may actually have a case. I went through a bartending school, took the exam.. bartenders are actually supposed to control the consumption of alcohol.. much like when people get DUI's the defense is to sue the bartender/establishment for not cutting them off. Crazy I know.
