Former ‘DWTS’ Host Brooke Burke Blasts ‘Diva’ Tyra Banks For Not Realizing She’s ‘Not The Star’

Former Dancing With The Stars co-host Brooke Burke has spoken out about her thoughts on Tyra Banks, who has received a heap of criticism ever since replacing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews on the ballroom competition series in 2020.

The 50-year-old, who hosted DWTS from 2010 to 2013, shared her thoughts during her interview on David Yontef’s Behind the Velvet Rope podcast this week. She nonchalantly claimed “everybody knows” that the former America’s Next Top Model star can be quite the diva.

“There’s nothing wrong with that, and I’m not saying anything bad about her — be a diva!” Brooke said in response to being asked about Tyra’s position on the long-running show, which first premiered back in 2005. But because DWTS is supposed to be about the dancers and not the host, Tyra should be focused on doing her job without the antics.

“It’s [just] not the place to be a diva,” the brunette continued. “Change is hard for everyone. They’ve gone through a lot on that show, that’s for sure. You are just not the star. Like, it is just not about you as the host, right? So, yeah, I think Tyra is great in a shining role. I will just say that.”

The Coyote Ugly star has received a lot of backlash since taking over the presenting duties two years ago, having sometimes forgotten her lines and even announcing the wrong bottom two during a live taping, much to the dismay of long-time fans.

Shortly after making her debut in September 2020 for the season 29 premiere, Tyra took to her official TikTok page to address comments from fans who didn’t feel she was up to par with the hosting role on DWTS.

“Tonight I hosted the second episode of Dancing with the Stars… and, it wasn’t perfect,” she admitted. Yeah, I had a lot of fun but I messed up, I said the wrong words, but the thing is I kept going.”

The mother-of-one then compared her performance on the show to then-contestant Skai Jackson, who delivered a shaky samba dance with her partner Alan Bersten, noting how the actress got back up and “kept going.”

“So the message is: I messed up this week, Skai messed up this week, but we’re gonna keep on going and going.”

Brooke’s comments come just days after a report claimed Tyra would not be returning as the host of DWTS once the show moves from ABC to streaming service Disney+ in the fall, as claimed by The Sun.

DWTS has seen a considerable decline in ratings in recent years, a source told the publication, which supposedly led to the decision to take the program off the network later this year.

Production “has been a mess” for a while, an insider continued, which is what has led to the departure of many producers, including Andrew Llinares, who was said to have been part of the team that decided to fire Tom and Erin.

Tyra has yet to comment on her future concerning her role on DWTS once it moves to Disney+.
