As we previously shared, Jenae and her fiancé Joe McCann traveled abroad for her 31st birthday on April 5. Two days earlier, McCann — who is best known as the founder and CEO of Asymmetric Financial, a crypto-focused investment firm — proposed to Jenae.

But by April 9, Jenae, born Ashly Robinson, was dead. McCann told police that he found the social media influencer unconscious in her hotel room at the Zuri Zanzibar. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital, her death listed as a suicide.

In medical records from the hospital, officials claimed to have found an unidentified mark around Jenae’s neck. The report also read, “According to the husband, he found she h*nged herself on the door.” A second hospital’s medical report claimed Jenae’s “immediate cause of death” was cerebral hypoxia by strangulation and suffocation.

Despite both medical reports claiming suicide, Ashlee Jenae’s parents — mother Yolanda Denise Endres and father Harry Robinson — said, “She’s never done anything that would ever ever lead me to believe that she would do something to harm herself like that. She was happy.”

Jenae’s family also claimed that McCann hasn’t been reachable after initially calling and telling them an incident had happened at the hotel. Jenae’s mother said during the trip, the influencer initially called home to tell her family she was engaged. The next call was to tell them she and McCann had gotten into an argument. She also shared that hotel staff separated them into two different villas.

The following day, the family got a call from McCann. He told them Jenae “did something to herself and was being taken to the hospital.” He also said she “was stable” and “what happened had been 11 hours prior.” The next call the family received was from the hotel, telling Jenae’s parents that she had died.

The parents said her fiancé never called to tell them and has been unreachable ever since. The family has been fighting for answers ever since and have also launched a fundraiser to help bury their daughter. By April 14, officials had detained McCann, confiscating his passport and holding him for questioning.

Since the last update, Jenae’s father, Harry Robinson, now tells TMZ his daughter’s body was returned home. He said Jenae’s body arrived in New Jersey on Friday (April 24). However, he said she was missing her engagement ring and other personal belongings. While he doesn’t know if they’ll ever get those items back, he presumes investigators are holding everything as the case remains active.

Harry also revealed the family has conducted an independent autopsy. However, the results are still pending. In the meantime, the family has planned a funeral service in New Jersey for early next week. The family is still without word from McCann and is trying to obtain hotel surveillance footage. They’re also considering traveling to Zanzibar, Tanzania to meet with officials in-person for more answers.
