A woman wanted for a double murder in Virginia has finally been taken into custody.
Dennikia Rachelle Boyce, 37, was arrested Thursday morning in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, after a successful operation by the U.S. Marshals Service. Boyce had been on the run following a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
She was wanted in Virginia on two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of two VDOT contractors on July 24 in Chesterfield County. The tragic incident took place at a VDOT equipment staging area near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 288.
Following her arrest, Don Snider, commander of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, issued a strong statement regarding the apprehension. “The citizens of Chesterfield County can rest assured that the U. S. Marshals Service is dedicated to assisting our state and local partners with removing violent criminals from the community,” he said. “Violent fugitives can cross state lines, but they cannot escape the reach of the U. S. Marshals Service.”
Virginia State Police are currently coordinating with authorities to extradite Boyce back to Virginia, where she will face the murder charges. For now, she is being held at the Halifax County Detention Center in North Carolina as the investigation continues.
