Less than 24 hours after Serayah announced she and Joey Bada$$ were done, fans are letting the Brooklyn rapper have it…and they are not holding back.
As we previously reported, Serayah broke the news herself on Monday, August 24, posting a lengthy statement to Instagram confirming she ended her engagement to Joey, with whom she shares a one-year-old son. The Empire actress explained she’d basically reached a point where “choosing herself” mattered more than staying silent. She went on to say the split came after she confronted what she called repeated infidelity that stretched across their entire relationship, including during some of her most vulnerable moments as a mother.
Serayah made clear she wasn’t trying to drag Joey through the mud for sport. She said she was speaking up because too many women are conditioned to doubt their own instincts instead of trusting what’s right in front of them, and she wanted other women to listen to that gut feeling instead of talking themselves out of it
But the actress didn’t stop at the statement. Hours later, she was back on her Stories with what she called “receipts” — including a now-deleted clip that appeared to be audio of Joey on the phone with another woman, the two of them apparently discussing Serayah and the state of their relationship. She captioned it with a pointed message about already talking to someone else about what they were going through, before deleting the post and following up with a simple “if you saw you saw.” According to TMZ, sources close to the situation say it was overhearing that very call last week that pushed Serayah to finally go public.
Through it all, Serayah maintained she wasn’t looking for a public war. She said her priority now is protecting her son’s peace and his relationship with both of his parents, which is why she isn’t planning to air out every detail. Still, she made sure to note that Joey needs to be shown for exactly who he is.
Joey Bada$$, for his part, has stayed completely silent since the news broke — no statement, no post, nothing. And that silence has fans even more heated. His comments have turned into a pile-on, with people showing up just to voice their disappointment, question his choices as a father, and let him know they’re not here for it. Some are calling him out for allegedly risking his family for a fling. Others are bringing up his past comments about not being built for monogamy, saying they saw this coming from a mile away. The general sentiment across social media right now is that fans feel for Serayah and aren’t interested in giving Joey any benefit of the doubt until he actually addresses it himself.
